Mugabe Is My Man By Nnamdi Obodoechi

                                                      MUGABE IS MY MAN
                                                      BY NNAMDI OBODOECHI
                                                    GLOBAL STAR NEWS PAPER-                                                        2005.

For long African leaders ruled with no wisdom and understanding and thus ended up making mistakes that have brought their citizens many agonies. Today, I am glad that some of them are taking good initiatives in order to correct the past mistakes, although, sadly, others continue to turn deaf ears to the needs of the citizens, dancing to the tune of white people in their various countries. I respect people like Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, who has put the white men in their proper position. I support him wholeheartedly because, as Walter Rodney rightly said in his book How Europe underdeveloped Africa: “The development of Europe is under development of Africa.’’
Some whites leader in the various parts of the world today have developed hatred for Mugabe, the gentle President of Zimbabwe, just because he recovered illegally acquired lands from white farmers in his country. For many years, these white (mainly British) farmers occupied much of Zimbabwe’s farmlands, but Mugabe has moved to correct the mistake by recovering and redistributing the land.

How can Europeans be making use of African’s rich mineral resources and fertile, repatriating the proceeds home to develop their countries, while Africa remains underdeveloped? This reminds me of what the notorious Adolphus Hitler of Nazi Germany said during World War II: That he would conquer the whole world and use Africa as farmland. Today, who can give the accurate information about Hitler’s end?

One thing we lack in Africa is unity, love, honesty. Even when we try to unite the whites will use international politics to disorganize and destabilize us. No wonder one proverb says “The position of the eagle is not pleasing to the raven’s heart.’’ The Europeans and some others are not happy when they see Africa progressing in any magnitude. This is the main reason why the British farmers have been exploiting Zimbabwe. Now they are paying for their sins as President Mugabe, the man of good conduct, repute, integrity, justice and the guru of Africa has taken the wise decision to checkmate them.

Anybody  within and outside Africa who considers Mugabe an enemy must be the enemy of God. God is on his side, no weapon fashioned against him shall prosper. (Isaiah 54:17). My advice to Mugabe is: Be courageous, continue the fight for African unity because the word of the King is always potent. Be strong so that other African leaders who are obedient to the core will learn from you and promote good leadership in Africa.

There is no need to worry about America and Great Britain, who speak with one voice, shedding crocodile tears for African countries, while being preoccupied with their own selfish interests. What they are after is the mineral resources of Africa to enrich their economy and ensure the rapid growth of their countries, not the interests of Africa.
The war against Iraq which UN secretary Mr. Kofi Annan proved to be unjustified is a good example. America took the laws into their hands and went to war with an eye on the oil in Iraq. No wonder, one English adage says “Dog does not go where there is no bone.’’ In Igbo: “Nkita (America) adighi eje ebe okpukpu na-adighi.’’

In CNN open Forum we saw how some people in the American Congress were overly interested in Kofi Annan’s resignation over oil- for food programme. Can that solve the problems of Africa and the world? The Americans have conveniently chosen to forget Kofi Annan’s good job since he began sitting on that hot seat of UN as the chief secretary. Any problem arises from the oil-for food programme was not the issue. The issue was that Kofi Annan was not in support of President W. Bush of America on Iraq’s war.
If Annan happened to be a white person such accusation would not come up. Recently, they started the debate about the cancellation of African debts, but later said that Africa should pay the sum of $15,000.000 to service its debts. Have you realised from this that they have no pity for Africa? They are sowing confusion through what they call “Africa aid.” When will our suffering for lack of wisdom and understanding come to an end? The person who killed and maimed you is now the person that comes to your aid!

I wish African leaders would tour Europe, America, Asia and other countries around the globe and see how African citizens are moving like sheep without shepherd, while the whites living in Africa are given the highest security and, indeed, the kind of privileges that have no comparison at all. To qualify to obtain residential permit, you will pass through much hardship and at last they may not like to issue it to you.

Unfortunately, President Oluegun Obasanjo of Nigeria has welcomed the Zimbabwean white farmers and approved for them large parcels of land in Kwara State. He has also urged other state governors to follow the example of Kwara Governor Bukola Saraki and make land available to the white farmers. This is clearly a big mistake; in the future, Obasanjo will definitely come to see what made Mugabe to recover Zimbabwean land from them. I only hope that by then the damage would not be too great for Nigeria and Nigerians.
