The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has announced the return of its leadership and delegation that visited the United Nations on September 14, the same day a “Sit at home” order was called by the group to remember the victims of the invasion of their leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s home at his country home in Afaraukwu, Umuahia in Abia State.

The delegation, which was led by the deputy leader, Mazi Uche Mefor, was at the United Nations to discuss issues pertaining to Biafrians and the eastern region of Nigeria, a statement made available on Friday by IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful, said.

IPOB noted that the visit marked the first time in the post-war history of Biafra that the leadership of any group, movement or people, has met with the United Nations in a face-to-face manner.

The statement reads in part: “This is the very first time that the United Nations have had the opportunity to host Biafrans to a meeting. It is only appropriate that we appreciate all those working tirelessly with our diplomatic team based in London to accomplish this feat.

“We equally commend the Directorate of State of the Indigenous People of Biafra (DOS-IPOB) under the distinguished leadership of Mazi Chika Edoziem who accompanied our deputy leader to the historic meeting in the company of the rest of the High Command of the Indigenous People of Biafra.

“The historic encounter with United Nations officials in Geneva has opened up avenues and opportunities for further engagement between IPOB and relevant UN agencies around the burning issues of human rights violations by the Buhari regime and enforcement of IPOB's universal right to self-determination.

“During the discussions, Uche Mefor pledged on behalf of the worldwide family of IPOB to commit the movement to work within the guidelines of United Nations charters and obligations in recognition of the unique privilege Nigeria currently enjoy as a full-fledged member of the United Nations.”

IPOB regretted that Kanu’s family, as well as other eyewitnesses to the military invasion of Kanu’s home on September 14, 2017, who were invited to the event by United Nations, could not attend because they were earlier denied entry visa by Switzerland in Abuja on the “instructions of Nigerian government”.

This flagrant disregard for United Nations issued invitation was also raised during discussions which the UN team assured the IPOB delegation will be looked into as a matter of urgency.

The statement added: “With this meeting satisfactorily concluded, IPOB has gone where no other group of leaders before it has dared go to.

“It will forever be recorded that for nearly 50 years and for the very first time in the history of Biafra, an interface was facilitated between representatives of the people of Biafra (IPOB) and the United Nations.

“Due to issues of confidentiality, we are not at liberty to divulge every detail of what transpired. Suffice it to say the world has been officially placed on notice that IPOB as a movement is determined to carve a separate existence for the people of Biafra (South East/South South) away from Nigeria.

“Anybody or group of people previously in doubt about the efficacy of our multidimensional approach has been dispelled with this meeting.

“IPOB leadership is working quietly on all diplomatic fronts, below the radar, to avoid the usual sabotage by the Nigerian state, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Igbo governors and their local agents that don't want to see Biafra emerge as a free nation.”

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT: UNITED NATIONS 4^TH COMMITTEE 

ON DECOLONIZATION INVITES 

AMBAZONIA

One of the highlights of the 2018 Independence Day speech of the Acting President of the Federal Republic of Ambazonia, H.E Dr. Samuel Ikome Sako, was the announcement of an official invitation by the 4th Committee of the United Nations on Decolonization.

“I would love to make that big announcement. Our nation- Ambazonia has been officially invited by the 4^th committee of the united Nations concerned with decolonisation…We will be presenting our case in New York before this committee in a few days time.” He said

But what is this UN 4^th Committee on decolonization all about and what does this invitation mean for the people’s revolution?

The United Nations 4th Committee, which is also known as the Special Political and Decolonization Committee is among the six main committees of the United Nations General Assembly. Its Membership is open to all UN member countries.

At inception, the UN 4th Committee was responsible for trusteeship and decolonization-related matters. Today, the committee is not only concerned with decolonization matters but also handles the Israeli–Palestinian peace process, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East, peacekeeping and special political missions, mine action, outer space, public information, atomic radiation, and the University for Peace.

By extending an official invitation to the Ambazonian Interim Government to present the case of the failed decolonization of the Southern Cameroons before the committee, it means that the UN has officially come to terms with the facts on the table. The present conflict is hinged on the incomplete decolonization process by the UN in its former Trust Territory of the British Southern Cameroons.

It is a case based on truth and justice, absolutely backed by international laws on states formation, the UN Chatter and other decolonization resolutions of the UN notably; UN Resolution 1514(XV) of 14^th December 1960 (Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples) and 1608(XV) of 21^st April 1961 (The Future of the Trust Territory of the Cameroons Under United Kingdom Administration).

Everything being equal, the UN 4^th Committee, by receiving and listening to the Ambazonian IG on the failed decolonization of Southern Cameroons should be the start of an official process of UN recognition of Ambazonia. The failed decolonization case of Southern Cameroons/Ambazonia is a special and unique one that shouldn’t be an issue of disputed and debate by any UN member state that seeks to promote the true ideals on which the UN was founded and the laws and resolutions governing the UN system.

Many Ambazonians have been quick to express worries that it was a mistake for the Acting President to publicly disclose this invitation by the 4^th committee in his speech. Their argument is genuinely based on the fact that the colonial regime in Yaoundé has lavishly hired and stationed different lobby firms in the U.S, which have been working to truncate every effort of the revolutionary leadership.

It is the hope of BaretaNews that revolutionary strategists within the IG took into consideration such possibilities before bringing out the announcement. However, the colonial lobby firms may lobby and buy off every member of the UN against the Ambazonian people but they can never buy off the TRUTH about the Southern Cameroons which is glaring at these members.

The genuine commitment and determination of the Ambazonian people to actualize the complete restoration of their independence, shall eventually crushed every obstacle and caused all those concern with this issue to do the needful. It has happened in more complicated cases before and that of Ambazonia cannot be an exception.
